Solid wood and engineered wood

Wooden flooring is a beautiful addition to any home, regardless of what room it’s fitted in. It’s a high versatile material, and works well with any interior style. There are lighter wood styles such as oak and ash that can make the smallest of spaces appear larger, whereas darker materials such as mahogany and walnut create a feel of warmth.

It’s simple to install and easy to clean, and highly durable. The crisscrossing layers in wood prevent movement during temperature change, and this structure increases the durability. It’s important you allow the wood to sit in the room it will be fitted in for a couple of days to allow the wood to adapt to its environment.

Solid wood is ideal for rooms with high footfall, and looks particularly grand in living rooms, hallways and bedrooms. If you require heating, you’ll need to opt for engineered wood as this feature can’t be installed under solid wood.

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is best suited in rooms with high moisture levels, or spaces where temperatures fluctuate. It’s perfectly suited for bathrooms, shower rooms and kitchens. Cleaning up spillages is also very easy.

Vinyl is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl tiles can also realistically mimic any material from wood to stone, and can also mimic any kind of finish. It’s also naturally scratch resistant, and wears well over time making it perfect for rooms with heavy footfall.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is one of the most popular choices on the market, it’s simple to install, incredibly hard wearing and affordable. It’s similar to wood flooring, so is recommended to be kept away from high moisture areas, as it can buckle and warp in these conditions.

Laminate can be installed in most rooms around the house, it’s best to avoid kitchens, bathrooms and underground rooms. Dirt and spillages are very easily removed, however the overall finish of the wooden design may not look as premium as that of engineered or solid wood.
