What is distressed engineered wood flooring?

In short, distressed flooring is the combination of our brilliantly hard-wearing engineered wood flooring and deliberate manipulation process, which is how we achieve the distinctive and unique distressed look.

The end result is a floorboard that has an individual, antique style without having to break the bank! What's more, our distressed engineered wood flooring is available in a wide range of wood types and colours.

Why would I choose distressed engineered wood flooring?

In addition to the unique look that the flooring can offer you, there are plenty of advantages to opting for a distressed engineered wood floor.

Firstly, engineered flooring is particularly easy to install yourself - which means that you don’t have to worry about factoring in labour costs when pricing up your floor. The flooring comes fitted with either a tongue and groove or click loc system, which allows the planks to be firmly connected together. Easy peasy!

What's more, there are a few options for you to consider when it comes to fixing your flooring, too. Whether you opt to use nails, an adhesive or decide upon the 'floating' method of installation, you've got the flexibility to lay the floorboards in the way that feels most comfortable to you, and appropriate for the room.

How is distressed engineered wood flooring made?

Available in oiled and brushed finishes, distressed engineered wood is a versatile alternative to solid wood flooring.

Each board is constructed from two halves. The top, visible section of the board is made of a hardwood veneer, and the base of the timber comprises layered plywood or HDF.

These layers are placed under intense heat and pressure in order to form a cross-layered insulating core board. This increases stability and durability and is highly beneficial in reducing the chance of buckling or warping. Once the engineered wood flooring is created, the floorboards go through a deliberate manipulation to create the realistic, distressed look.

Where could I use engineered wood flooring?

In short, engineered wood flooring is ideal for any room in the home, as the material's natural thermal properties are ideal for reducing heat transfer, and keeping a room nice and warm.

As the material allows for expansion, it's the perfect option for conservatories and basements, as well as above underfloor heating systems.
